DADDY SAID
Daddy said he’d come back.
Daddy said this would be the last time,
The last time he’d leave.
Daddy said I was his princess.
Daddy said I was his world.
Daddy said nothing mattered to him but me.
Daddy said this would all end soon.
Daddy said to be good for mommy.
Daddy said he was coming home.
Daddy lied.
Now daddy is under this stone,
The one I stand before.
I remember when they put him here,
The guys in green.
They handed me some flowers,
And mommy a flag.
I look at this stone,
This is Daddy . . . . .
