Are You Still Under Construction?

Or have you completed your growth as a person?  Are you as good as you are going to get?  Have you have learned all you need to know?  Are you too old to learn new things?  I don't think so! I once read that 'if you are still breathing, you still have some growing to do'.

Perfection does not exist.
You can always do better
and you can always grow.
- Les Brown

It doesn't matter how old you are, how young you are, how smart you are, how much education you have or don't have, how much money you have or don't have. We are all in this boat together.  We ALL have more 'growing' to do than we have time to do it.

You can learn something from almost every encounter you have with everyone you meet.  And most importantly, every learning experience you have is not always a positive experience.  You will have the opportunity to learn how to 'not' do something.  You can learn how to 'not' treat people.  These opportunities are presented to us everyday, if we just may attention.

This is what learning is.
You suddenly understand something
you've understood all your life,
but in a new way.
- Doris Lessing

Instead of just passing off every thing that happens today, stop and reflect for a moment.  Is there something here that I can learn from this experience?  Is there something I can take away with me that will improve my performance as an employee, a boss, a spouse, a parent, as a human being?

It might do us well to remember what W. Edwards Deming said - 'Learning is not compulsory... neither is survival'.

- Joe Freeman

Learning is not attained by chance,
it must be sought for with ardor
and attended to with diligence.
Abigail Adams
