The Blood of Our Young

Laws can decree our rights and liberties,

but laws cannot stop the temptation of evil.

Freedom is dangerous and often puzzling,

why some would choose to live with the devil.

Freedom is challenged everyday,

on the battlefield and in the corridor

and some innocents will pay the price,

children, students, workers, soldiers at war.

Do not confuse ‘Freedom’ with protection,

for being free means living with the hazard,

Freedom is expensive, without exception,

for the alternative has no reward.

Freedom is not just an aspiration,

for our heroes are brave and unsung.

We pay a high price for this nation,

with the blood of our young.
