Having Trouble Managing Money?

Is there always more ‘month than money’ in your household?  Is your bank account always empty?  As you look at this problem, do you say ‘I need to make more money’ or do you say ‘I need to cut back on my expenses’?

The art of living easily as to money
is to pitch your scale of living
one degree below your means.
- Sir Henry Taylor

If you need to make more money that may mean you are living above your income.  You may have what is sometimes referred to as ‘champagne taste on a beer budget’.  If you realize that you can cut your expenses to match your income, you are half way to solving this problem, you just need to take that next step and identify the expenses that can be reduced or eliminated.  If you are in the latter category, check out  the following articles (Are You Living Above Your Means? and How Much Does Life Cost You?) for some help in that area.

You should keep two basic facts in mind:
1. You are "in debt" because you spent more than you earned.
2. You can pay off your debts only by spending less than you

earn and paying back what you borrowed or owe.

If you are in a position of not being able to meet all of your commitments, try contacting the Consumer Credit Counseling Service.  The National Foundation for Credit Counseling web site contains resources you can use to locate an office near you and obtain guidance on resolving your financial problems.  The services also include telephone and online counseling options.  Check it out and get some ideas on how to proceed with your debt reduction.

Getting your finances under control will relieve a great deal of pressure on you and allow you to enjoy life to it's fullest.

- Joe Freeman

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards;
they try to have more things, or more money,
in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier.
The way it actually works is the reverse.
You must first be who you really are,
then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want.
- Margaret Young
