Where Have You Been?

Zig Ziglar says that ‘you are where you are in your life today due to the decisions you have made in the past’.  So while you were getting to where you are today - where have you been?

If you are like most of us, you have been experiencing failure, heartache, and disappointments along this route, this journey we call life.

Could all this pain have been prevented?  Probably not.  Would you have discovered anything about yourself if you had been able to avoid any of the pain?  Probably not.  Would you be better off today if you could have avoided all that pain?  Probably not.

Life is a succession of lessons,
which must be lived to be understood.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Some of these experiences have been very painful, and may have caused you to remember the experience negatively and thus not fully appreciate what you were taught by that experience.  Instead of remembering the pain, be thankful for the lesson.  Learn to appreciate the life experiences that have brought you to where you are today.

[about the past]
...the way I see it,
you can either run from it,
or learn from it.
Rafikki to Simba in
Disney's The Lion King

Maybe you are still hurting from some of those experiences.  Take some time to look back on past experiences.  How did you get through them?  Who did you talk to?  Make a list of the positive things you have learned as result of those past experiences.  Those lessons can help you get through your current 'pain'.

The important thing is that you learn new things about yourself, make adjustments along the way.  If you do, the journey to who you are today will not be in vain.

And, your journey is not over.  There are more lessons waiting to be learned.  Will they ever end?
Probably not.

- Joe Freeman

It is good to have an end to journey toward;
but it is the journey that matters, in the end.
